Landmarks

Yesterday, Alex and I swam 877 meters in open water without wetsuits. I saw several turtles swimming around me and a school of fish. Sounds silly to mention, but swimming in this murky green limited visibility water with other live things is a little scary for me. So yesterday's swim was a landmark victory in my journey to a more proactive approach to my physical health.

Tonight will be our first night as an almost complete family in our new house. The dogs and I will drive down and stay for the weekend in the new house with Neil. I packed up the car last night with many necessities, although it felt more like preparing for a camping trip than the first leg of a move. A new water softener and water heater are coming today! Some minor repairs and major cleaning to be done tomorrow. So tonight is a landmark as well- the first night of life in our new house.

Overwhelmed? Slightly. So I'm just going to keep swimming with my eyes on the prize!

Go tell it on the mountain?

Maybe experiences in public schools and culturally diverse social circles have trained me to minimize words and phrases like, "Jesus" "My faith in the Lord" "I am a christian." and "I put my trust in God"

The desire to allow my "striving to be Christ-like" actions to speak louder than words seemed dignified and correct. People who constantly spat "christian jargon and catch-phrases" drove me crazy and sometimes made my skin crawl. I used to think, "Shut up already! Stop talking the talk and walk the walk!" (...which is slightly ironic because that very thought could be considered a catch-phase...)

I once heard someone say, "God was telling them to do (fill in the blank) something" every week... every week "God's voice" was saying something different than just days prior... was that GOD'S VOICE? or just hormones?

There's no judgment or abrasion intended here... just my own reflection on how we talk about and live out our faith in relation to the world around us. I'm wondering what gives with ME?
Why, all of the sudden, I can't help from speaking of my faith and God all the time?

On one hand, I feel empowered share the amazing ways I see God working in my life and filled with joy, like the song...
Gooooo tell it on the mountain! Over the hills and everywhere!

One the other hand, I wonder, am I becoming one of those annoying people?

What happens when you speak of your faith to others? Will it evoke the same judgment I used to scorn upon other jargon-slinging bible-beaters? Is our faith a conversation to save for "opportunities"? Should you apply a filter to your "faith talk" just as you should to your politics, sex and financial talk? If so, I think my filter may have a hole in it lately. For now, I'll ponder patching it up. Penny for your thoughts on the matter?

In the meantime, I'll share my "faith talk" here, in a space to take account, reflect and celebrate.

You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:11

Joy abounds, exploring new grounds...
Rejoice in the Lord for He has good things for us.
His blessing given in perfect timing, unexpected and far superior to our own design.
What a King, what a King we serve!

I am thankful for the freedom and boldness to say-
Thank you Lord for bringing peace to my pathway
Thank you Lord for making masterpiece from clay
Thank you Lord for giving me a bright new day

It's Baaaaacck!

Crazy Nesting Syndrome that is! If you are not familiar with this disorder, it is a tricky one! The purchase of our new house has caused a relapse in my Crazy Nesting Syndrome.

Yesterday, I looked at the photos of our new house no less than 5 times in one day! I tore pages from catalogs and stashed them in a folder labeled- House Inspiration!

I have a blank canvas... and somewhere between fireplace facades and entertainment center designs... the creative energy was unleashed like a wild banshee and the ideas began to flow like free samples at YumiYougurt!

I can hardly focus at work, the temptation to surf over to pottery barn and hgtv is bringing a full court press. Want a sneak peak at my new design challenges? Enjoy these before pictures because the Boecking Home Makeover is about to begin!

What would you do with this patio? next to this pool? ...outdoor dining and conversation...

How about this fireplace? ... stone, art or wood...?

How about this master bedroom?
...matching fireplaces? re-cover the custom valences or toss them?...

It may be silly to blog about decorating and design... but it is one of life's (my) little joys! A new house feels like Christmas morning and I just can't wait to make it a home for Neil and I and our four furry children. Did I mention the finished dog run... oh glo-RY!

A house is made of walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams.

Leaving the life we have built for so many years in our home city is tough, but the hope and promise of a new adventure in a new city is exciting. We knew from the beginning that the Great Guider wold have to orchestrate the many factors of a move. Glory and praise are in order as we prepare to begin this new chapter in our life. May we be blessed and bring Him honor in our all of our adventures to come.

One YEAR

Neil and I celebrated our one year anniversary on the 11th.
What a year it has been. Where do I even start?
A year of new perspectives, faith and miracles.
A year of love, growth and new directions.
Our families have supported us through this tender first year of marriage.
I am more in love with Neil than I even knew possible.

I remember the day I married him before our family, friends and God. What a glorious day it was. One year has past since then and so much has changed.
Yesterday, Neil and I closed on our new house our new city.

We spent our anniversary eating at our place where is all began 4 years ago. A great dinner at a local restaurant Mirabelle. The place we went on our first date.

We also headed out to Wimberley to shop around and enjoy the beautiful views of Driftwood Estate Winery. We visited there on our mini-honeymoon and just loved it.

By the end of the day, we were happy and hopeful for another wonderful year to come. We tasted our wedding cake... which was better than expected after a year in the freezer.

April 11 - Happy Anniversary! I love you Neil!

The best is yet to come...

Friday Stream of Consciousness

Friday, busy day.
Nose hurts, head hurts- keep ignoring it and I can conquer the pain.
Maisie dug a hole in the yard again this morning.
I never knew how much my dogs pooped until I had to pick it up every morning.
Need to get the yard guy over again... so much rain everything is growing, blooming & growing some more!
Laundry to do. Oil change needed. Packing to do. E-mails to do. Gifts to wrap. Scooter to sell. Papers to file. Return the blockbuster movies after they were stuck in my brother-in-law's garage for a freaking week!
Need to work out- the week flew by with no gym time... eeeekkkkk!
5 more weeks of work in Round Rock... wow, what a quick year.
5 more weeks of living in Austin... change is in the air.
Hope the right buyer finds the Austin house soon.
So excited to begin life in the San Antonio with Neil.
I miss Neil. Going for a run/ride after work today.
Fish and vegatables for dinner... or maybe kabobs.
Gray's party Saturday, Andre's party Sunday. Lunch at Country Line after church.
Oh, what a busy, busy world. So thankful the week is over. Buckle up here comes the weekend.

Prayer on a Gray Day

Friday.
School starts with tardy students- released late from barricaded neighborhoods...
Shots fired, Officer Down. Saved by grace and a bullet proof vest.
Gray clouds and baggy jeans hang low
Blasting i-pods and wet, shiny concrete around campus
Big kids begging for boundaries and screaming for attention
I do what I can to reach who I can, but do my words fall on closed ears or open ears?

The rainy weather and Spring hormones make for restless, rambunctious souls.
A population divided- one conversation circles admission to college, another the f-word
A high school microcosm of baby adults trying to find a branch to hang on to in the wind storm that is their morning.

The aire of the end of an era percolates through the roof and the floors and the walls, hitting virgin noses- and again a duel effect.
One student carefully prepares to soar away, another unsuspecting who stirs like a caged animal that senses an approaching storm.

May prayers shelter these young ones with umbrellas of grace.
Make haste my God, may they hear Your voice.
I claim these students in Your name.
May the work of their hands be blessed and good.
May their steps find solid rock.
May their lives find purpose and dignity.
May their dreams survive the fight.

Baby Steps to Triathalete!

Yesterday Alex and I met with our new trainer. He has finished many races including an ironman (which is ca-ca-ca-caRAzy)! The point being he helped us out with our first open water swim in the lake. Mind you it is warm in our part of Texas, but not THAT warm. In the spirit of ripping off the band-aide I plunged in from the deck... OH MY GOSH was it breath-takingly cold. Instantly, my heart raced a mile a minute and I think I was making some strange shoutish sounds like, "Oh! AH! EEHH! OOO! It's COLD! I can't breath! Why is everybody but me in a wetsuit!?!"
"Start swimming!" they shouted to me.
And swim I did! I'm not sure if it was the freezing water temperature or the intimidating fact that I could not see a foot in front of me in the murky green water- but as I finished my trainer declared that he was quite impressed with my speed.

Thennnnn, Alex and I practiced our technique in the pool, thennnnnn we headed to Town Lake for a run. We managed 2 miles and then called it quits for dinner time at Whole Foods. It was a great baby step in my journey to becoming a triathlete... or at least a triathlon completer. :)

I KNOW I CAN I KNOW I CAN I KNOW I CAN!
